Many people prefer to stay inside once the temperature drops below a certain degree, stating they would prefer to stay bundled up indoors instead of brave the cold Wisconsin outdoors. In fact, some even think there isn’t anything to even really do outside in the winter months. That, however, just isn’t true.
Here are the top five things in Wisconsin you have to try before the snow melts.

1. Try Free Ice Skating in Wisconsin
Whether you’re a seasoned skater or you haven’t been on the ice in your life, prepare to have a blast at Red Arrow Park in Milwaukee. Bring your skates and glide across the rink any day between December and February. Don’t have your own skates? No problem! They provide cheap rentals of all sizes.

2. Marvel at Our National Bird
Dozens of eagles hunker down to spend the winter in Prairie du Sac to fish the waters of the Wisconsin River. The town celebrates by hosting Bald Eagle Watching Days every year. Participants can watch aerial shows, go on guided tours, and enjoy other family-friendly events. Bald Eagle Watching Days takes place this coming year on January 18 and 19th, 2019.

3. Freeze a Little for a Good Cause
Take the meaning of “cool” a bit more seriously by partaking in one of Wisconsin’s Polar Plunges offered throughout February and March each year. You can plunge on your own or take a group of friends, family members, or even coworkers with to jump into the icy depths of our lakes to help raise money for the Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes.
Does jumping into icy water sound like a bit too much for you? No worries! You can still participate by purchasing a spectator pass or by pledging a plunger!

4. Watch Masterpieces Unfold
Watch regular snow turn into something magical before your eyes. The U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition is held in Lake Geneva, WI every year. The winner of this event is guaranteed participation in the national competition, so you know you’ll get to see some pretty marvelous sculptures at this family-friendly event.

5. Relax and Take In the Wisconsin Splendor
If you simply want to get off the couch and do something relaxing outdoors, there are still events for you to try. The most enjoyable way to look at all the winter beauty around us is to sit back and let someone else take you for a ride in the countryside. That someone else can be a few horses at Dan Patch Stables, where they offer trail rides as well as carriage rides, or it can even be a pack of sled dogs at Whitnall Park.
