Affiliated Dentists at the Tough Mudder

We’re Proud to See One of Our Own at Tough Mudder

Earlier this year we saw Connie and Jennifer participate in Crazylegs 2013 to help raise money for UW Athletics.  Just last weekend, on Saturday, September 7th, 2013, Dr JoAnn Miller joined thousands of others in the Tough Mudder marathon!

What is Tough Mudder?

The Tough Mudder is an annual event held across the globe to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.  Created to be a personal challenge instead of a race, Tough Mudder is not timed.  Instead, the only goal for participants is to complete the course.  As a “Mudder,” you take a pledge to not only understand that this particular marathon is not a race, but also to help fellow “Mudders” complete the course.  This marathon is about camaraderie, and if others around you fall or are having a hard time completing an obstacle, you are there to help them, just as they will for you.  It’s stated on the Tough Mudder website that this marathon cannot be completed alone, which is why teamwork is the main focus of this event.

However, the Tough Mudder is not for everyone.  Mud, fire, 12 foot walls, ice-water and 10,000 volts of electricity stand between the starting line and the end.  It is highly recommended you check with your medical doctor and that you train before participating.

Who Created the Tough Mudder?

The Tough Mudder was founded by Will Dean while he studied for his MBA at Harvard.  Will used to work as a counter-terrorism agent for the British Government.  He wanted to make an exciting and different type of race, being frustrated at “unimaginative and repetitive marathons.”

What is the Wounded Warrior Project?

Donations from people registering for the Tough Mudder are collected for the Wounded Warrior Project.  This charity is not only to raise awareness about injured service members, but to also help them assist each other, and to create unique programs that help them with job placement and other needs.

Affiliated Dentists Loves Getting Involved!

We are extremely proud to be a part of the community, and encourage our patients to say “hello” if they see us out and about at any events!  The next time you will see us out will be as Official Game Day Sponsors at the UW Men’s Badger Basketball game against Plateville on October 30th, 2013 at the Kohl’s Center.  After the game, we will even be handing out free toothbrushes everyone, so be sure to look for our staff wearing Affiliated Dentists shirts to get yours!
