What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants provide a permanent alternative to dentures and bridges to improve your smile. Dental implants look, function and feel just like your natural teeth because they are anchored to the jawbone. Implants can also serve as anchors for bridges or dentures to help eliminate slipping.
Our Madison dentists are highly skilled in providing dental implants for our patients and equipped with the latest in state-of-the-art technology. Meet Dr. Mark Gustavson of Affiliated Dentists, Madison, and get answers to common questions about dental implants in the video below:
What is the Dental Implant Process Like?
A dental implant restoration consists of a biocompatible titanium screw and post topped by a crown, bridge, or denture. In essence, dental implants help maintain bone mass and act and look like natural teeth.
Our process for dental implants begins with a thorough evaluation at our offices. The exam will include an evaluation of bone structure and jaw strength to accommodate placement of implants. After this evaluation, we can tell you whether you’re a candidate for dental implants.
If so, surgery will be required in which a titanium post is implanted into the jawbone. One post is required for each new tooth that will be anchored. We then allow time for the bone tissue to fuse with the titanium post to create a solid foundation. Once the dental implants are secured, we will attach a handcrafted permanent crown to each post. Crowns will match your natural teeth perfectly.
A Natural-Looking Smile with Life Changing Results
The imitation of an entire natural tooth, from the root up, means that dental implants provide all the benefits and functionality of natural teeth. Dental implant patients enjoy a diet complete with all of the hard-to-chew foods those with natural teeth enjoy. They can also improve your bite and speech.
